How Much Time Should You Block?

I was talking to my mother yesterday and the subject of blocking time came up. She and I are always talking about our businesses; I really hate to call it “business talk” though, because we’re both doing what we love to do so it was more of a conversation about our passions.

My mom and my step-dad founded a Non-Profit Organization about 19 years ago, their 20th anniversary is coming up soon which is huge achievement. Nineteen years of service to the community is a big deal! Together their team has helped kids learn about business, clean up their neighborhood, and this past summer their kids learned about Monarch butterflies in “The Butterfly Project”. Her team continues to grow and continues to help more and more people each year. If you had to guess, how much time do you think that she must block each day to make her vision become a reality? What kind of mindset must she have to continue working in the same community for over 20 years? After all, we all know how easy is to work with people right ?

I didn’t ask her those questions, but I have watched and learned from the example that she has set over the years and I’ve picked up the same work ethic and mindset so I think that I know some of the answers. What I do know for sure is that she has made community service a way of life, and she’s happy.

I think that it’s important to do what we love, and to love what we do. If we’re not doing what we love, then we’re not going to block enough time for it, thus we will not get the results that we think we deserve. Why do we try to fool ourselves into thinking that it’s all about the money?

People seek out jobs and career paths because of the money, yet they hardly ever quit because of the money. So many people get into real estate with dreams of making it big, yet because of “the work” involved aren’t able to get there.

I didn’t get into the business because of the money, I did it because I’m great at sales. I also got into real estate in order to create opportunities for my family and friends. The opportunities that Team Woods is creating is what it’s all about for me, so if that means that I have to block 20 hour days to make it do what it do, then so be it. If I have to go back to the drawing board again and again, so be it.

I’m so thankful to have a mother that understands what goes into becoming a great person. I still have a long way to go, but I’m determined to reach my destination. I’m happy to know that you all are with me on this journey.

My goal is to help you on your mission and to help determine how much time you should be investing into your business. Another thing that I can do is to help hold you accountable with some of the goals that you set for yourself. But in order for me and the team to help, you must; 1) Have goals 2) Be Ready, Able, and Willing to Learn and 3) Must be willing to get more serious about blocking time.

Time isn’t going in reverse, the more time we waste, the more difficult it will be to reach our goals. So let’s start using our time more wisely, let’s review our opportunities more carefully, let’s become better planners, let’s learn to block out the distractions in life much easier, let’s learn to set better examples for the people looking up to us, let’s learn to work better with people who aspire to do what we’re doing, let’s work on being happier, and most importantly….let’s make today a GREAT Day!
