If I Had Only Known...

What is one real estate lesson that you wish you had learned, and applied on day one? For me it would be learning to focus on team building as my primary role. My approach to the real estate business would have been much different if real estate school would have told me to focus on building my team.
I think back on the many hours spent showing properties, writing contracts, talking to buyers, sellers, etc. I consider the lessons I learned doing things on my own were the biggest benefit to where I am today. It’s always great when you can get an education without having to spend a bunch of time and money.
I closed a lot of deals over the years by myself, but I didn’t enjoy the business as much as I have while focusing on the team. Yes, there have been some headaches dealing with various personalities; that comes with the territory. I simply take those lessons and apply them to future situations.
My advice to anyone in real estate or looking to get into the industry would be to have a “burning desire” to be part of a power team. A team that is serious about its goals and determined to win. Beware of teams that don’t invest in the ongoing training and empowerment of its members.
It’s hard to find like minded individuals to work with, but as long as you don’t give up looking you will find the right people. That’s another lesson that I’m glad to have learned because that determination has lead me to be surrounded by some really great folks that are determined to win!
We’d like to hear about one or two of the lessons that you wish you would have learned early on. Until then, make it a great and productive day!
