Priming The Pump

Team,
Today I’m reminded of one of my favorite stories from Zig Ziglar, a motivational speaker who recently passed away. He talks about how on those old timey water pumps with the long handle you would have to prime the pump and crank it for a while before a drop of water would flow. By priming the pump you put a little water in, before you get anything out. What many people don’t realize is that when you start cranking, you are actually bringing water from the well very slowly. The problem is if you stop cranking before the water flows the water goes right back to the well and you have to start again if you want a drink.

Our business has been the biggest water pump I’ve ever cranked. We pour energy and passion into what we’re doing and sometimes it takes a while for the team to get a drink. I mostly feel encouraged to keep going because I see so much potential and so much talent all around me. I know things sometimes will get frustrating, and we move forward sometimes just to get knocked back a step or two, but that’s part of the journey of life.
I just celebrated twenty years of marriage this past week, and I can say from experience that relationships have their ups, downs, failures, and successes. But the more we communicate and keep working toward our shared goals the farther we’ll go together. It’s the first of July and we’ve got 176 Days until Christmas, so let’s make the rest of this year part of our shared success story and ring in the new year stronger than ever.
Thanks!
~Scott
