Don’t Lose Your Charm: A Message To The Good EA

Real estate is the most lucrative business in the world. There’s nothing that could be sold on this planet that has more value than real estate. Not stocks, precious stones, drugs...nothing. This is the reason that the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly alike are attracted to the business.

Even those who are not in Real Estate will usually have a couple good experiences and a few horror stories that they’ve gone through themselves or heard about. Now imagine being exposed to the business and the people in it full time.

When I started, I used to describe the business as an “emotional roller coaster”. I’d take a call from one person that was super happy to be closing on their first home, then the next call would be someone upset with me because of a mistake that they made; then there are the greedy people trying to take advantage in the transaction by any means necessary.

Being exposed to this kind of activity on a daily basis will change you, and it should, however you need to allow the business to change you for the better. At its best, It should make you more organized, more proactive, firmer in your decision making, happier, and wealthier!

However, too often I come into contact with some very cold and unwelcoming people. You can tell that most of these people have been hurt by the business because they’ll always let you know why they WILL or WILL NOT do something, and the reason is because of what happened to them on a past deal. What you don’t want is to do is allow those experiences to take away your charm.

Listening to other people’s horror stories all the time will get to you IF you let it! I love a good real estate story, and even bad stories have valuable lessons, but I find little value in listening to someone relive their worst experiences every time we speak. Those conversations can be draining and set a negative tone for the rest of your day if you aren’t careful.

Protecting our charm is something that we must work on daily because properly handling negative situations is not something that can be figured out once and it’s done. It’s like staying in shape, we must work at it every day.

Just like there’s no one exercise or food that will keep us in tip top shape, there’s no one practice that will protect your charm. In addition, what keeps one person’s charm in tact may not work for someone else. That’s why it's important to research various ways of dealing with toxic conversations and people.

Remember, in every horror story there’s also a lesson to be learned. Don’t let one bad experience make you lose your charm. I love working with happy and upbeat people that want to find solutions and make money. So let’s enjoy this business together and make it a great day!
