Chapter Title: Big is Bad

Chapter Nine has been the most motivational for me thus far. Mainly, because it’s talking about two of my favorite subjects; the importance of Thinking, and Executing Big. I’m always aiming high because as Les Brown says: “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.”

As much as I know this to be true, I find it hard to believe how many people don’t share this same belief. In fact, some people actually fear success to the point that the thought of being successful makes them uncomfortable. I see this from time to time when I’m doing a real estate training.

There are so many times that I”ll be giving someone the exact steps to get to next level and they’ll hesitate, change the subject, become defensive, and worse, they’ll simply fail to execute.

Part of the reason is that they simply have no passion for what I’m talking about, another reason is that they fear that if they do what I’m saying...the advice might actually work. A third reason is that some people simply fear failure; and I’m not about that life.

Life is for the LIVING, and living is all about dreaming BIG! It’s about pursuing your dreams and knowing that you will probably fail at your first 5, 10, or 15 attempts. It’s also about deciding in advance that you’re going to keep pursuing your dreams regardless of whatever or whoever gets in your way.

If you are looking at flipping a house or a contract with no money down, how easy do you think it’s going to be to make that happen? How difficult do you think it has to be? Whatever you think and believe is how it’s going to be. As Henry Ford said: “If you believe that you can or can’t, you’re right”.

Most people don’t know that it took me over a year to close my first real estate deal, but by my second year I had closed 40-50 transactions. I took what I learned that first year and applied it to everything moving forward. I kept my hunger, my dreams, my determination, and my focus.

Now we’re at a place where a person can join Team Woods and close their first deal within a month of being on the team. Even faster for the Big Dreamers, The Big Executors, and The Goal Getters!

At the end of the day we either have a growth mindset or a fixed mindset. If you don’t know the difference between the two check out the chart below, and in the meantime, make it a GREAT day! #ThinkBig

Food for Thought: My highlights of Chapter 9

  • “For if you fear big success, you’ll either avoid it or sabotage your efforts to achieve it.”

  • When we connect big with bad, we trigger shrinking thinking.

  • How many ships didn’t sail because of the belief that the earth was flat? How much progress was impeded because man wasn’t supposed to breathe underwater, fly through the air, or venture into outer space? Historically, we’ve done a remarkably poor job of estimating our limits. The good news is that science isn’t about guessing, but rather the art of progressing.

  • Everyone has the same amount of time, and hard work is simply hard work. As a result, what you do in the time you work determines what you achieve. And since what you do is determined by what you think, how big you think becomes the launching pad for how high you achieve.

  • Thinking big is essential to extraordinary results.

  • Sometimes things are easier than we imagine, and truthfully sometimes they’re a lot harder. That’s when it’s important to realize that on the journey to achieving big, you get bigger. Big requires growth, and by the time you arrive, you’re big too!

And some Dessert for Thought

  • How many times are you prepared to fail before you succeed?

  • How many No’s do you have to hear before you give up?

  • What excites you the most about failing?

  • What scares you the most about being successful?

  • You have to have a dream in order to make a dream come true.
