In this section Gary Keller talks about how he went through life “Clenched”. Everything was a high pressure, got to get it done, work hard, work long hours, and have no fun type way of life. Although he gained success from working this way, he also gained health issues. It wasn’t until he began to slow down and take on less that he realized he could be more productive. I learned a lot from this section. Over the past 3 years I’ve slowed down a lot of things, and even though it may seem like I have a lot going on now (and I do), it’s nothing compared to before.

Currently I work 7 days a week; 10+ hours per day. I’m not obsessed with working, but I am obsessed with leaving behind a legacy for my children. Despite my current long hours, my goal is to work a 4 hour day, 5 days a week and no weekends.

Since I spend so much time working, I’ve made it a point to do the type of work that I love doing. I also workout daily; which includes jogging, lifting weights, and trying to eat right. Although this blog may appear to be work, I consider it good therapy for me and it’s part of the legacy that my children and their children will be able to enjoy for years to come.

I think it’s important to spend time doing what we love to do. If you’re working on a career in real estate simply because of the money, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Find something that you love to do, and learn to apply it to the real estate business. You may not like everything you’re doing in the business now, but know that real estate has many areas that you may find loveable. Or you can become passionate about finding that thing that brings you joy in another profession.

Life is too short to spend 4 to 10, hours a day doing what you don’t love to do. As Gary Keller said, if you don’t know what your one thing is, make your “ONE Thing” finding your “ONE Thing”. And as I always say, MAKE it a great day!
